This booklet includes early writing narrative opportunities for young learners that are directly connected to 14 favorite children’s books as well as BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER Reading questions for each text! There are 4 different levels of templates to meet the needs of each individual learner.

Reading aloud is one of the most powerful tools we can give our young children on a daily basis. Throughout a read-aloud, there are many opportunities for rich conversations and written responses. Included are before, during, and after reading questions to use to guide conversations and discussions.

As a young learner, writing comes in many forms: as a picture, label, word, phrase, or as a sentence. As young learners grow, their writing changes and develops. This resource includes four different template levels for each response. The included sample writing progression shows the stages of writing that children move through as part of the learning process.
