Giving Back:
Foundations for Futures believes in supporting families and teachers in LITERACY BASED PROJECTS.
All too often funds fall short for many, and educators and families are left scrambling for the necessary supplies and resources needed to support early literacy in the classroom and at home. We have made a commitment to build literacy awareness by annually donating through our FOUNDATIONS for FUTURES Giving Back Program.
Each Fall we will select TWO classrooms/families to support with a LITERACY project that reflects building the foundations for the futures of our children. We are hoping to expand to selecting an additional classroom/family in the Spring!
Book Look Nook Bins
Veteran Kindergarten Teacher in New Hampshire desperately wanted to give her students a warm and cozy place to fall in love with a good book. Foundations for Futures donated the brightly colored book bins that are now the home to a large collection of children’s books that engage the students daily.
Linking Non-fiction Reading to Real Life Experience
Energetic 1st Grade Teacher, Mrs. Gialames, in Kissimmee, Florida hoped to be able to give her students matching shirts for a field trip to the Orlando Science Center. One of the major goals of the field trip was to expose students to science-based concepts, then link the new information to non-fiction reading. The trip allowed her first graders to experience the joy and wonder of informational texts, and how to connect those ideas to real-life experiences. Foundations for Futures was able to donate to this classroom, helping with the cost of the trip.
Celebrating Student Growth in Writing
Working in a Title One School, Mrs. L was determined to bring her students to Sea World, one of the most educational parks located in Orlando, Florida. The trip would serve as an amazing way for her to CELEBRATE her student’s hard work and growth in writing throughout the year. Although most of her students resided in Orlando, Florida, NONE of them had ever gone to the theme park. Foundations for Futures helped sponsor students to make the trip possible. While there, the students recorded facts about sea life, gathered detailed documentation, and had a truly once in a life-time experience.
Garden Towers
An elementary school in Newmarket, NH had the vision to supply their school with three Tower Gardens. This unique project would allow students to engage in fun, hands-on learning about plant life and bring lesson plans to life!! The tower gardens would help grow the love of non-fiction reading for the students, by connecting TEXT to real-world applications. Connections will be made to the real-life towers through text, diagrams, and charts. Foundations for Futures donated to help make this vision come to life for the elementary school.
