Cut Up Sentences- Using Pre-K through 1st Grade Sight Words
Using cut-up sentences as a reading tool is a wonderful way to support our young learners on their early literacy journey. Cut-up sentences allow for opportunities to practice matching spoken and written words, sequencing words to make meaning, sounding through words, and reading for comprehension. Packet includes over 50 sentences at varying levels, using Pre-K through First Grade Sight Words.
To complete a cut-up sentence lesson:
1. Pick ONE of the sentences provided. (There are over 50 options at varying levels included!)
2. Cut out each one separately.
3. Work together to read the words one at a time.
4. Work together to place the words in the right order to form a sentence.
5. Read the sentence out loud multiple times.
6. Mix up the words again.
7. Have your child put the words back into the correct order to form a sentence.
8. Glue the words into a journal, notebook, or on a piece of paper.
*Children can then write out the sentence below. For a challenge, have them write an additional sentence that goes with the first one.
